I had the same problem (with the 7890 onboard), except it froze after recognizing my SCSI devices. > Should I just upgrade to 3.1-STABLE and be done with it? I ran into this problem when doing the 3.1 Install (from floppy). After juggling a few things (mainly physical positions of the drives in the case -- no cable/config changes) it worked. I don't know what the problem was, though all failures were preceded with a "zf_read: fill error" before the freezes.
