Do me a favour -- run the command "/usr/bin/time find /usr/ports -name README.html -print | wc -l" and tell me what it shows you. On the new 4.0-STABLE server I am setting up to take over as our main ftp server, right after having done a "make update" in /usr/ports, I get the following: $ /usr/bin/time find /usr/ports -name README.html -print | wc -l 153.50 real 0.93 user 4.57 sys 3205 On a 3.4-RELEASE server I have in production as our primary news peering server (on which I don't think I've ever done a "make update" in /usr/ports, although I have installed certain selected ports), I get: /usr/bin/time find /usr/ports -name README.html -print | wc -l 299.67 real 0.61 user 7.53 sys 2403 I'd be very interested to know what you get on your system, and if that is different from what I have, why it is different. Myself, I'm guessing that you get them no matter what, and if so, then I'd suggest that we make a point of keeping these things up-to-date. -- These are my opinions -- not to be taken as official Skynet policy ====================================================================== Brad Knowles, <blk@skynet.be> || Belgacom Skynet SA/NV Systems Architect, Mail/News/FTP/Proxy Admin || Rue Colonel Bourg, 124 Phone/Fax: +32-2-706.13.11/12.49 || B-1140 Brussels http://www.skynet.be || Belgium To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
