In case you want to ftp installation floppies for the 4.1 release look here: ftp://ftp.freesoftware.com/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/4.1-RELEASE/floppies This would allow booting into a simple FreeBSD system that is able to extract distributions from an CD-ROM or a FTP server.
