There have been some changes in the atheros code. Have a look at the new /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/GENERIC file. You will need to delete your older ath related entries from your NEWKERNEL file and replace them with these: device ath device ath_hal options AH_SUPPORT_AR5416 device ath_rate_sample info on this is also in /usr/src/UPDATING
