Use ``add default HISADDR'', and if that still causes the error, 
upgrade to the latest version of ppp (which you can get via 
http://www.Awfulhak.org/ppp.html).

If you don't want to upgrade, re-read the man page, remove the add 
line from ppp.conf and put it into ppp.linkup where I suspect it was 
supposed to be with your version of ppp.
