You should not have to add that route manually. It should be handled
automatically by ifconfig(8). How are you configuring the interfaces
in rc.conf? That is, what are the ifconfig_<interface> lines? What is
the output of,

  # ifconfig -a
  # netstat -rn

Once the system is up?
