Run as root:

'cd /dev; ./MAKEDEV snd0'

Does the kernel detect it properly?  Look at 'dmesg' and make sure it's
found.  If not, then .... :-/  

Don't forget you need to mount CDs before you can read them.  Run
'mount -t cd9660 /dev/wcd0c /mnt' and your CD will show up at /mnt.  Run
'umount /mnt' to umount them before ejecting.
