You do not need to control the firewall.

Look at the port forwarding options in the ssh man pages. (-L
port:host:hostport)

Depending on what proxy services are configured on your firewall, you
might also have a look at SSLtelnet-0.11 and socks5-1.0.7 in the net
section of the ports tree.
