            Bug ID: 279712
Summary: x11-wm/hikari: mark DEPRECATED but without
                    EXPIRATION_DATE
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Only Me
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)
          Assignee: ashish@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: jbeich@FreeBSD.org
                CC: raichoo@googlemail.com
             Flags: maintainer-feedback?(ashish@FreeBSD.org)
          Assignee: ashish@FreeBSD.org

Maybe recommend Wayfire due to similar license and window management. Also
packaged on OpenBSD which may help migrating OpenBSD <-> FreeBSD.

Current hikari upstream is dead:
- the last commit from 2022-01-13
- has many bugs as Wayland ecosystem evolves (Xwayland is probably fine)
- uses wlroots directly instead of wlr_scene (to reduce API churn)
- depends on obsolete wlroots version (high API churn)
- does raichoo (project author) still use FreeBSD?
- are there actively developed forks?

-especially-hikari.92727/#post-647462

This is from "new users" POV and NOT a proposal to remove hikari. I don't f=
ind
wlroots015 hard to maintain as being written in C rather than C++ makes it =
less
likely to break on base Clang upgrades, and the libraries it depends on have
stable API.
