    Hi Hugo,

Are you Portuguese by any chance? I am - my name is Philip Pereira =
by-the-way.

I've been using FreeBSD for about 3 months and have already picked =
it up. I've played with Linux also, but found FreeBSD to be more =
controlled in its development. I've done things such as re-compile my =
kernel several times (which proved FAR more easier than Linux) and have =
upgraded to X 4.1. I've also found it to be a lot more configurable - =
and user friendly at times - than Linux. System crashes have NEVER =
happened on my FreeBSD box! It may help to know that most webservers =
(including Microsoft ironically) use a FreeBSD box and Apache to run =
their servers - I think that speaks volumes...

I still think it comes down to a personal preference though. My idea =
is to try box (preferably on a test box or old harddrive in your current =
computer) and take your pick - however, saying that, I'm sure most =
"newbies" in this forum (myself included) would say "FREEBSD!!!"

In answer to your second question - yes, you can have a mouse when =
in command line mode in FreeBSD. The option is given during installation =
(I've got version 4.4 and have a PS2 mouse connected.)

Once configured correctly - you may need to turn on the "emulate 3 =
buttons" option - you can highlight any text on screen with the mouse =
pointer & left button, and then press the middle button to paste it at =
the command line. This proves VERY helpful when you have packages names =
like: "package_name.1.4.2_4.tar.gz"

    I hope this has helped!

    Philip.

      Hello all,

I came from Microsoft systems and I never saw an unix system =
before, until yesterday !

I read something about FreeBSD like "it is better than Linux".
What your opinion about to start with this system ?

I'm a mouse dependent.Could you give me some tips about using a =
mouse device without x, just console ?

      Thank you
