I'm confused, are you saying, it may be possible to share the 
functionality /now/? So, which device should I give to sane? The /dev/ulpt0?

Great -- the sooner the better, thank you! (Frankly, it is embarrassing, 
that we did not have it 3 years ago :-( Not to point any fingers at
