Subject: Problems running XFree86 from the ports system on 3.3.4

I have been using FreeBSD for some time now for servers, but decided to try
KDE out on the platform as a workstation.

I installed basic FreeBSD 3.3.4 and then installed XFree86 from the ports
collection. When I try startx, I get the following error message:

Authentication failed - cannot start X server.
Perhaps you do not have console ownership?

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? The problem has something to do
with the Xwrapper program that is used with the newer versions of XFree86.
If I run Xwrapper directly I get the same error. I have tried this as a
user, as su'ed user, and as root directly.

Please reply to me directly as I am not part of this mailing list.
