It might be a little confusing to newbies that there is no empty
/etc/make.conf file, which is probably why they go into defaults instead.

Maybe it'd be a good idea to put in an empty file, which says something
like:

# Please check /etc/defaults/make.conf for system-wide defaults, but don't
edit that file.
# Add all override settings to this file instead.
