Well, since you don't say how you got the software, I can't give you much advice about how to install what's missing. But the standard 2.2.5 kernel (no longer the newest) includes a driver for a PS/2 mouse. Reboot, enter the kernel configuration menu, and enable the PS/2 mouse, which is normally disabled.
