I prefer the following solution Yup, turning DRI off on my laptop makes it too slow (for me) to use as well. I'll try this next time instead. Thanks also for posting the suggestion to the list, having a radeon has proved to be more of a pain than I'd have like anyway and any suggestions on making things work better are really helpful - often just waiting or going back to vesa has not been a great help!
