I don't quite understand what's going on here, could you please give some
more detail?

Did you make sure the matcd driver in the installed kernel is configured?

The dists/ directory was excised for 2.1.6.  Use the 2.1.6 installer if 
you're not.

It will when you go to use it in sysinstall.
