I take it you are running a non vulnerable version of apache  ?  There are 
still however ways to crash the server with buggy scripts / programs.

e.g. on an onlder version of php,

<?php
     socket_iovec_alloc(0x20000000);
?>

will cause the httpd process to terminate with a sig 11.
