I had a large patch to start with and tried to break out the different parts into seperate commits, but that caused some rather ugly merge conflicts each time around the loop. It compiles, and runs as a client and server, but I've not extensively tested it in it's present form yet. There could well be some problems.... There are some other things that need to be done still, but I'll get to them over the next few days.
