I have tried to run the Excite search engine on my FreeBSD box. According
to excite, FreeBSD is an unsupported platform. First, I tried the BSD/OS
version. It turns out that the executable that builds the search indexes
crashes with a floating point exception:
# ./aindex.pl alles
Floating point exception - core dumped
Next I tried the Linux version.
The installation executable of this can't find the 'libxpbd.so.1'
library:
# sh install-Excite
Starting installation. This may take a few seconds...
./perl: can't load library 'libdb.so.1'
# ldd ./perl
./perl:
libdb.so.1 => not found
libdl.so.1 => /lib/libdl.so.1 (0x280ac000)
libm.so.5 => /usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib/libm.so.5 (0x280af000)
libc.so.5 => /usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib/libc.so.5 (0x280b7000)
Has anybody had more luck with this? Is it at all possible? Please mail
any suggestions to drexler@geotax.nl
