The cups configure.in is written for 2.50 or higher. That's the other patch that requires it -- the patch in cups/files/patch-[whatever]-common.m4. I turned off checking for malloc.h as a preemptive strike against errors due to that. He's got no choice but to upgrade his automake and autoconf.
