Hello to all,

I have Intel L440GX motherboard with embedded Adaptec AIC-7896 U2W/UW
SCSI, two PIII 500, not overclocked. Firstly I attached there disk with
FreeBSD 3.3, which earlier worked on old PPro, and everything went fine
with one-CPU kernel, -- all disks worked (and some narrow ones connected
with another Adaptec 2940 adapter also). Then I tried to compile SMP
kernel for this machine (see config below), but it refused to load (see
error message below). 

Then I tried to install 3.4. Strange things: when disk (IBM 18LZX 9.1 Gb)
is connected to the adapter, rather long pause (about a minute) occurs
before something begins to load from boot diskettes. When disk is not
connected (bus is free), installer begins to boot normally. But in both
cases, after the message `Waiting 15 sec for SCSI devices to settle',
everything stop, only error messages are issued. The same with 3.3
installation.

I saw considerable amount of threads dedicated to close subjects, but,
unfortunately, have not found any answer that clarify the situation.
Similar systems sometimes work, but are unstable (e.g., as in message
Pine.BSF.4.10.9908171543470.45414-100000@caxton.correionet.com.br),
Some systems do not... 

Maybe, kernel SMP options must be set to specific values? But I do not
know what any of them means, except of `number of CPUs'. Where could I
find more detailed explanation (LINT is too brief)? How do these
parameters named in motherboard specification?

Would be grateful for any help. I would neither like to migrate to another
UNIX, nor to get hardware back, -- in FreeBSD `Releas notes' is written,
that AIC789x onboard adapters are supported...
