I got around it by install the gnomevfs2 package. That installed more stuff. I returned to the build of gnomesession, and it completed. I still can't find gdm, but gnome-session is there. Alas, I set up .xinitrc to exec gnome-session, and all I get is the spalsh screen and an error: There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon. Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may no work correctly. The Settings Daemon restarted too many times. The last error message was: Failed to activate 'OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon' GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in. Back at the command line I see where Gnome was trying to use a theme called Gorilla. I don't have that, but I do have AgingGorilla. Time to go pick up my wife and do some Christmas shopping. Merry Christmas: Gary Dunn Honolulu
