You should change to the /sys/i386/conf directory 1st, then type "config
<myconfig> whereas the <myconfig> is the name of you custom kernel
configuration. Then type "cd ../../compile/<myconfig> and type "make
depend;make;make install"

That should then create your own kernel, once you installed your kernel and
rebooted it should be active.
