I have found that disconnecting the CD ROM drive would allow it to boot the kernel. Durring my trouble shooting, I tried different version of the 6.x ata driver on the 5.3-BETA4 kernel without any luck in getting it working. NOTE: I have had to use the 6.x ata driver on my previous 5.3-BETA kernels due to problems with crashes when detecting my CD-ROM drive with the 5.3 ata driver. I kept the ata driver the same (6.x 08272004) thru-out all kernel builds to eliminate it as a suspect. So far I have isolated the problem to the commit that removed the debugging options from the 5.3 BETA GENERIC kernel. # ident /sys/i386/conf/GENERIC $FreeBSD: src/sys/i386/conf/GENERIC,v 1.413.2.1 2004/09/07 23:49:57 scottl Exp $ The kernel without the debugging options would get to here and hang: ATAPI_RESET time = 390us ad0: 26105MB [53040/16/63] at ata0-master BIOSPIO acd0: WARNING - MODE_SENSE_BIG interrupt was seen but taskqueue stalled I'm currently building a 5.3 BETA4 kernel with the debuging options enabled.
