Speaking from the standpoint of a clueless hacker, I've done this and it's
not that bad.  Figure out how to make it probe as a worm drive, and if it
uses the same commands as either the HP or the Plasmon, you're golden.  

If you've suddenly discovered a new drive that doesn't cooperate though,
it becomes more difficult.  (Also I guess I don't speak for the eide
drives.)
