hi BSD 's

i am running FreeBSD 2.2.8 stable.
how can i kill a ghost user? 
The user got disconnect, but when i run 'finger'
it reported he is still online? 
'ps -aux' reports that the user is _not_ running 
anything (no shell). 
how can i make sure if someone get disconnect that 
the machine does the logout automatic?
