IMHO it wouldn't make much sense either because sendmail only interacts with the socket not creating or deleting it, the socket actually is created at boot time but it dissapears at the very moment the boot shell detaches form the antivir startup script. This behaviour is typical for 5x , I believe that 4x doesnt show that behaviour, I can't backup that haven't tested it with 4x. Actually I notices if you replace `fi` with `fi &` from the first start case it works also, handy workaround if you have already installed it from the port. But I favour for my script(ofcourse:-)) it has some nice extra features, like generating mc and cf files depending on your'e configuration, a status check wich also does a control on the existince of the socket ,a pre-test to check if all depending binaries and files are in place, and a update option.
