After trying with SAGA GIS 2.1.2 (from ports), 2.1.4 (not in ports yet) and 2.2.0 (devel version, not in ports) I can confirm, that the described problem only appears with version 2.1.2. That version is not recognized by the QGIS 2.8.1 processing algorithm. QGIS 2.8.1 is the first version, which distinguishes between the newer SAGA GIS versions.
