I remember that CompuServe even let it do you the other way round: You could send an eMail to a special address at CompuServe, and they'd print that message and deliver it via postal mail. So, if you were in the US and wanted to send a postal letter to Germany, you could use CompuServe's service. They'd simply make sure that your eMail got printed in their German office, and then sent via postal mail to the destination address in Germany. Of course, this was faster than sending a message all the way via postal mail from the US to Germany.
