Yes, 0.39 does not work with FreeBSD 4.X. Since that is our current production release, it would be ashame to alienate those users. Our resident C++ expert says that work is underway by the inkscape developers to add gtkmm support which will fix this. In the meantime, version 0.39 is in the MarcusCom CVS repo at http://www.marcuscom.com:8080/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi.
