Try loading bat.blend and press alt-a with the mouse pointer in the
bat window. You can find bat.blend in the tutor-1.01 file.

This should start an animation, press ESC to stop.

Also take the time to read the manual and read the documentation
that comes with the tutorials, finally you can browse the
newsserver, a lot of questions are answered there:
