This is a known problem with the ep driver.

Looks like it's been outstanding for over a year.. not sure why it hasn't 
been fixed yet.  I set up a cron job that runs every hour to ifconfig my ep 
interface up and then down on my laptop (which also has an ed interface, 
and is used as a firewall/gateway 24/7)
