Last time I saw these symptoms they were a result of the way that SCSI tapes return the Check Condition bit set in otherwise OK responses to commands after exceptional conditions (usually media change). So the first time you tried to access a drive after you'd inserted a new tape, you'd get an error. This is a 'feature' of the SCSI tape spec, and should be handled at the application level. > I'd prefer the status light. Perhaps a "non-locking" dev is the answer? > That is what I provided for the Matsushita CD-ROM drives. I'd be inclined to unlock on rewind; it makes little or no sense to be able to eject a partially-wound tape. This would give automatic unlock on close of the rewind device (the default). > Frank Durda IV |"The Knights who say "LETNi" -- ]] Mike Smith, Software Engineer msmith@atrad.adelaide.edu.au [[ ]] Genesis Software genesis@atrad.adelaide.edu.au [[ ]] High-speed data acquisition and (GSM mobile) 0411-222-496 [[ ]] realtime instrument control (ph/fax) +61-8-267-3039 [[ ]] "Who does BSD?"
