For anyone using non-default partitioning (and that includes me), allocating space reasonably is up to them. It would certainly possible to use /usr/home; the easiest way is to simply specify home directories with /usr/home/user explicitly. Of course, it would be possible to replace a /home directory with a symlink manually.
