Dear Thomas, With all due respect, may I humbly request that you turn down the volume on the "RTFM" replies... Granted RTFM *should* be the very first thing that everyone does, but as we all know, it just isnt so. I do *not* disagree with your RTFM position, in fact, I agree heartily (even though I am an occasional "abuser" myself). The problem is trying to wade through a thick stack of these RTFM replies: it's become almost as unbearable as the original questions! Perhaps if questions like "how do I put the boot floppy together" were left unanswered, these folks would attempt to RTFM. Perhaps not. But I know that I can't be the *only* one who waded through a veritable *sea* of these replies! Maybe the answer is an off-list RTFM? If coupled with no other help, it may be quite effective, *without* subjecting the loyal followers of "questions" to this barrage... I usually answer off-list when making an RTFM or "please don't send a message without a subject" reply... Please note: it is very difficult to tell (sometimes) when one is being glib or condescending, or just outrght nasty, via a post. I want to assure you that I make this post in all earnest: no double meanings, etc... Thanks J.A. Terranson sysadmin@mfn.org GUNS SAVE LIVES: MAYBE EVEN YOURS.
