 That is intentional and necessary files in the texmf-var directory
 should be generated during pkg_add.  This is because it is possible for
 the files in texmf-var to be modified after print/teTeX-base is installed
 and they can be regenerated without difficulty.  If they are included in
 the package, pkg_delete would not remove them due to MD5 checksum
 mismatch and the remaining files could play tricks on upgrading in
 the future.

 Or, do you mean the package did not generate files in the texmf-var
 directory at all?  If so, that is probably my fault.  Please send
 me your log of "pkg_add -v".  Thanks.
