I'm new to this list, so please forgive me if this has been covered previously. When I copy large amounts of data between two disks using XFS and the aic7xxx driver I keep getting error messages and then it completely locks up my machine. Only one of the disks has to be XFS. I'm not sure, but I think it may only have to be the disk I'm copying from. So far I have not gotten the error copying from ext2 to ext2. I have tried this with kernel 2.4.2 and 2.4.3 under Redhat 7.1. When I do the same operation on a machine with a symbios it works fine. I can also get this error message on multiple machines with the aic7xxx. The error messages I get: Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Attempting to queue an ABORT message Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Cmd aborted from QINFIFO Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: aic7xxx_abort returns 8194 Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Attempting to queue an ABORT message Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Device is active, asserting ATN Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: Recovery code sleeping Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: Recovery code awake Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: Timer Expired Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: aic7xxx_abort returns 8195 Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Attempting to queue an ABORT message Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Cmd aborted from QINFIFO Jul 5 16:52:33 Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Attempting to queue an ABORT message Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Cmd aborted from QINFIFO Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: aic7xxx_abort returns 8194 Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Attempting to queue an ABORT message Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Device is active, asserting ATN Jul 5 16:52:28 machine1 kernel: Recovery code sleeping Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: Recovery code awake Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: Timer Expired Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: aic7xxx_abort returns 8195 Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Attempting to queue an ABORT message Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: scsi1:0:2:0: Cmd aborted from QINFIFO Jul 5 16:52:33 machine1 kernel: aic7xxx_abort returns 8194 machine1 kernel: aic7xxx_abort returns 8194 Here's what I have: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00 scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.1.11 <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> aic7895C: Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs scsi1 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.1.11 <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> aic7895C: Wide Channel B, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs Thanks, Denise -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Denise Berendes National Space Science & Technology Center | University of Alabama at Huntsville | denise@nsstc.uah.edu 320 Sparkman Drive | Phone: (256) 961-7764 Huntsville, AL 35805 | Fax: (256) 961-7755 ------------------------------------------------------------------ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe aic7xxx" in the body of the message
