well, color me crazy, but if it's a PC card *scsi* device, shouldn't you try
to attach the appropriate scsi module rather than Soren's ATA driver? A quick
grep through /etc/defaults/pccard.conf and I see:
# Adaptec SlimSCSI (also included with Sony CD-ROM players)
card "Adaptec, Inc." "/APA-1460 .*/"
config 0x9 "aic" ?
insert camcontrol rescan $device
You're saying that with the above defaults (which you say you have) the card
isn't recognized. Have you tried NOT having your own /etc/pccard.conf?
