I'm getting half transfer rates on recent CAM builds (-current as of 17 July 12:00 GMT + 0716-diffs or today with 0716 diffs) on two of three nearly identical systems using same kernel. The kernel from 0712 SNAP shows full rates on all devices on all systems. All three systems use the SuperMicro P6DBS Motherboard with integrated AIC-7895 dual UW controller and single disk <IBM DDRS-34560W S92A>. The system showing the correct transfer rate has a second unused CPU and a CDROM drive <NEC CD-ROM DRIVE:464 1.05> and a PnP modem. The only interesting difference between my config and the GENERIC is the addition of SoftUpdates. Now, what's strange and so far unexplainable is why a dual cpu system with a CDROM drive might be able show full tranfer rates regardless of kernel (generic, mono, smp). Maybe its the modem :-). I noticed that on 0716 the "using left over BIOS settings message" has gone away. Wondering if changes to support Ultra2 controllers might have affected the 7895. Kurt PS: for bandwidth reasons, I've only included relevent portions of my dmesgs below. Complete listings, as well as kernel config files, are availabe for the asking. 0712 SNAP Generic: >ahc0: <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> rev 0x04 int a irq 11 on pci0.14.0 >ahc0: Using left over BIOS settings >ahc0: aic7895 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs >ahc1: <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> rev 0x04 int b irq 11 on pci0.14.1 >ahc1: Using left over BIOS settings >ahc1: aic7895 Wide Channel B, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs ... >da0 at ahc0 bus 0 target 1 lun 0 >da0: <IBM DDRS-34560W S92A> Fixed Direct Access SCSI2 device >da0: 40.0MB/s transfers (20.0MHz, offset 8, 16bit), Tagged Queueing >Enabled >da0: 4357MB (8925000 512 byte sectors: 64H 32S/T 4357C) -current + 0716 diffs (BOOLEAN) >ahc0: <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> rev 0x04 int a irq 11 on >pci0.14.0 >ahc0: aic7895 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs >ahc1: <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> rev 0x04 int b irq 11 on >pci0.14.1 >ahc1: aic7895 Wide Channel B, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs ... >da0 at ahc0 bus 0 target 1 lun 0 >da0: <IBM DDRS-34560W S92A> Fixed Direct Access SCSI2 device >da0: 20.0MB/s transfers (10.0MHz, offset 8, 16bit), Tagged Queueing Enabled >da0: 4357MB (8925000 512 byte sectors: 255H 63S/T 555C) >From SMP kernel (BOOLEAN-SMP) Freeing (NOT implemented) redirected ISA irq 11. ahc0: <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> rev 0x04 int a irq 16 on pci0.14.0 ahc0: aic7895 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs Freeing (NOT implemented) redirected ISA irq 11. ahc1: <Adaptec aic7895 Ultra SCSI adapter> rev 0x04 int b irq 16 on pci0.14.1 ahc1: aic7895 Wide Channel B, SCSI Id=7, 32/255 SCBs To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-scsi" in the body of the message
