I have attempted to install FreeBSD on a system and ran into this problem. The kernel will start to boot and get to the point where it's mounting the drive and come up with this error. "Specified device does not match mounted device" It says "system rebooting automatically" or something like that and I'm given the opportunity to specify a path to a specific shell or hit enter for sh. Any ideas on what might be the problem? I'm running kernel 2.2.5 on a PII 350Mhz with a Maxtor EIDE 8.4GB drive.
