It appeared that the port was installed somehow, since I'm using most of KDE, and their KMID (or KMIDI) app uses timidity. For some reason (this was while using the VOX drivers on an SB Vibra) the app didn't work properly. It couldn't find timidity's config file, when it was where it was supposed to be. There'll be quite some reading ahead of me for when I really want to use it. No biggie. Not the first thing on my list (far from it). Thanks for the info!
