This is because wi_reset() tries 5 times to initialise the card and each time it call wi_cmd() which hangs for 5 seconds untill the the cards busy bit is cleared. After those 25 seconds, the card works okay. I do not have docs on the card, but apparently at some point in time the card resets itself.
