I doubt your problem is related to packet size. Ping sends "x" amount of data and expects the same amount in return (you can vary the data size on the command-line). I have the same situation as you FreeBSD and NT 4.0 on the same net and they communicate just fine. I would suggest first that you make sure you can ping by IP address rather than host name to eliminate DNS, HOSTS, or any Netbios resolution issues. Then, as I notice from your original message you say that you have these 2 hosts connected with NIC's, they are not connected directly to each other in twisted pair fashion by any chance are they? If so you cannot use standard TP wiring to accomplish the job and need to use a hub. Or re-wire the cable to flip TX & RX pairs. Eli On Thu, 27 Nov 1997, Daniel R.
