The ports collection was in VERY bad shape for 5.0. I've tried for over a year to get maintainers and committers to fix broken ports, without huge success. It was necessary to impose a long freeze period in order to re-focus people on getting the ports collection in better shape. We're a long way towards that goal (600 broken ports now instead of 1200 a few weeks ago), but we're not there yet. You can do your part by visiting=20 http://bento.freebsd.org/errorlogs/ and submitting fixes for broken ports.
