I'm confused, how can they both be greater than each other or is this a
typo?

fortunately this will never happen with samba-devel because its always a
development branch, when its 3.0 time that goes into samba, but what is a
ports person to do about this problem(I understand that 2.0b2 is greater
than 2.0, but how would you specify its a beta?
