It is helpful. Contrary to popular belief, I have a "real" job that keeps me quite busy. I do my best to get GNOME and GNOME related stuff out as quickly as possible and as functionally as possible. I'm not always 100% successful, but I do my best to respond to bug reports, test things as problems arise, and submit patches ASAP. If someone wants to setup a tinderbox machine on the Internet (I think Maxim did this a while ago, but I'm not sure what the state of that is), I would certainly begin running constant builds of gnome2-fifth-toe as well as gnome2 to try and avoid user-found problems.
