Hi, Running 2.2.6. Yesterday my cable modem folks decided I needed to have a different IP address. No biggie in theory. As root ran ifconfig ex0 inet xxx.xx.xxx.xx netmask yyy.yy.yy.yy up checked via ifconfig -a and it looked fine. However, I was not connected to the net. No way. So, I edited /etc/rc.conf and rebooted and all was fine. My question is: shouldn't ifconfig have worked as above without rebooting, or did I leave a step off?
