Subject: newfs failure on install: "virtual timer expired"

I just reinstalled my dual CPU Dell PowerEdge server (adaptec 7890
SCSI chipset) with 4.4 (I was running 4.2), but during the creation of
backup superblocks during newfs on /, I get a "Virtual timer expired"
error. Of course, newfs halts, and the installation fails. I cannot
find any reference anywhere as to what this error means coming from
newfs. Since 4.2 and 4.3 install just fine, I have to assume this is
a 4.4 specific bug, am willing to investigate it, but I need to start
by knowing what the error means.

Any guesses? Kurt :-)
