Get the latest archive from http://www.freebsd.org/~brian.  The man 
page pointed to from www.awfulhak.org is *very* out of date :-(

The latest archive has lots of nice features too.  If you still can't 
get a connection, switch on some logs:

  set log +chat +connect +phase +lcp +ipcp +ccp

and send me the output.
