When I removed these two options, the problems disappeared. A week or two ago, there was a discussion of this for the Adaptec 2940UW revision E cards the stable email list. As Chris points out, these issues have come up in the past as well. I have not had a chance to dig into this issue, and I won't until August (I'm defending my dissertation at the end of July). I thought I saw some email in the past about the early (rev 0 or rev A) Adaptec 2940s cards having problems. But I have not been able to locate them in the archives to confirm this.
